Alumni of South Pasadena High visited their alma mater last weekend as the SPHS Alumni Association held its 5th decennial Grand Reunion.
The all class get together began on Friday, June 10, with a no-host reception from 5 to 10 p.m. in the lobby of the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Pasadena.
On Saturday, June 11, the young and old Tigers gathered at the SPHS campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a day of activities, featuring campus tours, booths staffed by local clubs and businesses, food trucks, memorabilia and more.

SPHS Principal John Eldred set the stage with a 10:30 a.m. welcome of returning alumni in the Anderson Auditorium (recently named in honor of ’74 grad and recently-retired SPHS Principal Janet Anderson).
On Sunday, June 12, the weekend wound up with a picnic from 11 to 2 p.m. at Garfield Park as a BBQ hot dog lunch was served to all attendees.
In addition to the Association’s activities, many individual classes held class reunion gatherings on Saturday at Garfield Park.
The first Grand Reunion in 1982 served as the inspiration for the formation of the Association, which continues its mission of awarding scholarships to SPHS graduates every spring. This year the SPHSAA awarded more than $50,000 to graduating SPHS seniors.
