Senior Center Events November 9 to the 12, 2018

The South Pasadena Senior Center, located at 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services offered to enhance their quality of life.

The following will be offered:

Friday, November 9, 11:45 a.m. – Celebrating Veterans Luncheon – Join us for a lunch where we honor those who served this country. Program will include speakers and music.   Cost per person $2.25.

Friday, November 9, 1:45 p.m. – Cinema – I Can Only Imagine (2018). Drama/musical, 1 hour 51 minutes. All senior citizens are welcome.

Friday, November 9, 1:30 p.m. – Good Grief: Surviving Loss – Grief is not limited to feelings of sadness. It can also involve guilt, yearning, anger and regret. Join an ongoing support group that will cover the five stages of grief and assist with tools to deal with grief. You do not have to endure grief alone. Paris Silva, PsyD, and LCSW will lead group. Sign-ups are encourage, but walk-ins welcome.

Monday, November 12 – CLOSED – Veteran’s day. Thank you to all Veterans!

Tuesday, November 13, 10 a.m. – 12 noon, Financial Advice – Registered Investment Advisor will advise on income planning, higher interest returns, tax reduction and more. Scott W. Burch is available every 2nd and 4th Tuesday, by appointment only.

Wednesday, November 14, 8:30 a.m. – Glucose & Blood Pressure – Screening are offered the 2nd Wednesday of the month of November. Huntington Hospital nurse Kathy Eastwood is available to provide glucose test and blood pressure screenings. Fasting 1.5 hours prior is required. Walk-ins welcome.

Wednesday, November 14, 10:30 a.m. – “Men in Retirement”.   Have you recently joined the permanent vacation force? Don’t really know what to do now? Feeling a little lost? Too much time on your hands? Join weekly discussion group and learn how to the fill the empty hours and discover ways to thrive in your third act! Group lead by certified trainer Oliver Beaudette.

Wednesday, November 14, 10:30 a.m. – Crafts: Plastic Canvas Décor – Make decoration with Plastic Canvas at no cost for members of the Center. Supplies needed: bring your two colors of yarn and plastic canvas needle size 16, we will provide the canvas and decorations, projects led by Senior Center Staff. Sign up needed.

Wednesday, November 14, 1 p.m. – Elder Wisdom – The group honors and respects one another. They share resources and support each other as they journey through what can be the best part of our lives. Find meaning and purpose today and every day. Group facilitator: Oliver Beaudette, CERTIFIED Sage-Ing leader.

Friday, November 16, 10:30 a.m.­ – Leaving a Digital Legacy – How many of us use the internet regularly to bank, send emails, Skype, shop and among so many other things that we can do in our digital age? Have you thought a about what will happen to those accounts after you’ve gone? Join workshop and learn the important steps of including digital legacy in your final wishes so that you have a say in what happens. Presented by Maxine Vo with Transitions Hospice. Sign up needed.

Friday, November 16, 1:00pm, Cinema – The Viceroy’s House (2017), Drama/Romance, 1 hour 45 minutes. Senior citizens welcome.

Lunch menu for the week: Monday, November 12: Roast Turkey; Tuesday, November 13: Chicken Enchilada Casserole; Wednesday, November 14: Roast Pork w/ cumin & prunes; Thursday, November 15: Tomato Soup, and Friday, November 16: Pulled BBQ Chicken Sandwich. Lunches cost $2.25 and required a reservation in advance.
