Senior Center News November 2 through 9, 2018

The South Pasadena Senior Center, located at 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena, invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services offered to enhance their quality of life.

The following will be offer at the Senior Center from November 2-9.

Friday, November 2, 10 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. – Holiday Card-a-thon – Class designed to help you create festive holiday cards for friends & family. Instructed by Joyce Jeffries and she provides all materials. Cost per person is $5. Advanced sign up needed.

Friday, November 2, 1 p.m. – Friday Cinema featuring 2018 film “Mamma Mia! 2”, a musical/comedy, the film runs for 1hour 54 minutes. Senior citizens are all welcome.

Monday, November 5, 10 a.m. – Probiotics the Pros & Cons – Probiotics come in two forms, live culture or in a dormant form (capsule). You may wonder which is best. What should one avoid? Join us to learn more from William Shuttic, Nutritionist.

Wednesday, November 7, 10 a.m. – Pets Needling TLC come visit the Senior Center

Wednesday, November 7, 10:30 a.m. – Los Angeles County Tax Assessors Guide to property Tax & Assessment – Are you thinking about transferring your real property to your children? Are you a senior looking to sell your house and move to another location? Do not miss the important presentation that can possibly save you and your family some tax money. Subjects to be covered included: Parent and child Exclusion; Grandparent and grandchild Exclusion; Property transfers, Senior Citizens Replacement Dwelling Benefits, Transfer of decedents Real Property; Severely and Permanently Disabled Resident Exclusion; and a guide to Declined-in-Value Review. Presenter: Carol Quan, Assessor, LA County Special Assistance with Public Affairs Officer. Sign up needed.

Thursday, November 8, 8:30 a.m. – Walking Group meets in lobby of Center, newcomers always welcome. An easy form of exercise and an opportunity to meet a friendly bunch.

Friday, November 9, 11:45 a.m. – Celebrating Veterans – Join us for a lunch where we honor those who served this country. Program will include speakers on Veterans benefits followed by festive music. Sign up required, luncheon sponsored by The Terraces at Park Marino.

Friday, November 9, 1 p.m. -2 p.m. – Good Grief: Surviving Loss support group– Grief is not limited to feelings of sadness. It can also involve guilt, yearning, anger and regret. Join an ongoing support group that will cover the five stages of grief and assist with tools to deal with grief. You do not have to endure grief alone. Paris Silva, PsyD, and LCSW will lead group. Sign-ups are encouraged.

Friday, November 9, 1:45 p.m. – Friday Cinema featuring “I Can Only Imagine” a 2018 film, drama/musical showing for 1hour 51 minutes. All senior citizens are welcome.

Hot lunches are offered weekdays with the following being served: Monday, November 5 – Stuffed Bell Pepper. Tuesday, November 6 – Oven baked Chicken. Wednesday, November 7 – Vegetable Lasagna. Thursday, November 8 – Breaded Chicken strips, and Friday, November 9 – Baked Salmon w/ Dill sauce. Lunches cost $2.25. Home delivered meals are also available for those who are ill or frail and not able to cook for themselves, the cost for these meals is $2.50 per day. Reservations are necessary in advance and for the delivery program a registration form is needed.
