The South Pasadena Senior Center, located at 1102 Oxley Street, in South Pasadena invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services offered to enhance their quality of life daily

The following will be offered in the coming week at the South Pasadena Senior Center:

Friday, March 8, 10:30 a.m. – Living with Alzheimer’s – There are many myths circulating about the illness, and many people do not understand that dementia is a manageable condition in the early stages. In fact, many families living with a dementia patient can find some peace and little stability. It just takes a clear understanding of what dementia is and how it can be managed. Speaker will share information as well as provide resources. Presented by Maxine VO Transitions Hospice.

Friday, March 8, 1 p.m. – Friday Cinema featuring “A Star is Born” a 2018 film, Drama/Music/Romance, lasting 2 hours and 16 minutes. All senior citizens are welcome.

Monday, March 11, 10:30 a.m. – Funding Options for Home Care – This lecture will cover alternative ways to pay for home care for loved ones.   Presenter will share common ideas, like long-term care insurance and Veterans benefits, as well as ways to convert life insurance into long-term care insurance when it is needed.  Presented by Home Instead Home Care.

Monday, March 11, 1:15 p.m. – Foreign Film day featuring “In the House” a 2012 film, language French, Drama/Mystery, lasting 105 minutes. All senior citizens are welcome.

Tuesday, March 12, 10 a.m. – Financial Advice – Registered Investment Advisor will advise on income planning, higher interest returns, tax reduction and more. Scott W. Burch is available every 2nd and 4th Tuesday, by appointment only.

Wednesday, March 13, 8:30 a.m.­-10:30 a.m. – Glucose & Blood Pressure – Huntington Hospital nurse Kathy Eastwood is available to provide glucose test and blood pressure screenings. Fasting 1.5 hours prior is required. Walk-ins welcome.

Wednesday, March 13, 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga – Offered by Huntington Hospital. Class is limited to 20 participants, call to register.

Wednesday, March 13, 9:30 a.m. – Crochet & Knitting – Class will continue this year. Learn to create fun gifts or bring your own projects. Instructor: Jean Shono, $5 per class.

Wednesday, March 13, 1p.m. – Elder Wisdom – The group honors and respects one another. They share resources and support each other as they journey through what can be the best part of our lives. Finding meaning and purpose today and every day. Group facilitator: Oliver Beaudette.

Friday, March 15, 11:45 a.m. – St. Patrick’s Luncheon – Join us as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and do not forget to wear green. Lunch menu will consist of traditional: Corned Beef, Boiled Potatoes and Cabbage. Entertainment provided Gypsy Folk Ensemble. Call to join the waiting list; Home Instead Senior Care will sponsor it.

Friday, March 15, Friday Cinema – No Movie due to event.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday by reservation. Menu for the week is as follows: Friday, March 8 – Salmon Loaf w/ Newburg sauce

Monday, March 11 – Baked Chicken Herb

Tuesday, March 12 – Swedish Meatballs

Wednesday, March 13 – Enchilada Casserole

Thursday, March 14 – Spaghetti w/ meatballs 7 tomato sauce

Friday, March 15 – Corned Beef.

Cost per person $2.25 for onsite and reservations are necessary. Home delivered meals are offered to those that are frail or recovering from illness, cost per meal $2.50, contact the office for any application.
