Hundreds are expected to take part in the 21st annual South Pasadena Tiger Run 5K/10K Run/Walk on Saturday, December 1.
The 5K/10K Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m. while a Tiger Cub Run for kids around the school’s track gets underway at 9:30 a.m. The $40 pre-registration for the 5K/10K includes a t-shirt (designed by a SPHS student) and medals for those who place. Medals and T-shirts will be provided to those participating in the Tiger Cub Run.
The event will also include a Fitness Expo on the tennis courts near the starting area.
Proceeds will benefit the South Pasadena High School Tiger Booster Club. Funds support SPHS clubs, activities and campus sports.
The first half of the 10K covers the same ground as the 5K, with the second half run on a challenging, hilly course through the higher elevations in the city.
Race categories for Saturday’s event will include: Wheelchair (5K Race) 40-44, Elementary (K-5), 45-49, Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12), 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-79 and 80-plus. The 300-meter Tiger Cub Run tests speed and endurance in a fun setting, providing an opportunity for parents to cheer on all the young competitors.
A non-profit organization, the South Pasadena Tiger Booster Club draws its members from the community, including alumni, coaches, parents, teachers, and local businesses.
The Tiger Run is managed by Aztlan Athletics, which developed and operated unique grass-roots, community-based fundraising events, since 1974. Azlan Athletics endorses various agencies whose goals are to improve the health and wellness of all communities.
