Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) released the following statement to welcome the Lunar New Year, which begins on February 12, 2021 and marks the Year of the Ox:

“Happy Lunar New Year to the millions of Asian American families in the United States and around the world who are celebrating today! Lunar New Year is a joyous occasion for millions to join with family, friends, and loved ones to celebrate our cultural traditions as we welcome the new year. 2021 is the Year of the Ox, a symbol of strength, reliability, hard work, honesty, and determination.

Those attributes have special meaning this year because, like the Ox, we will rely on our hard work and determination as a community to get through the enormous challenges we are continuing to face due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including the recent spike in anti-Asian hate crimes. Despite these challenges, the Asian American community has shown great resilience in the face of adversity, and I know that this new year will bring brighter days to come. I wish everyone celebrating today a very happy, healthy, and prosperous Year of the Ox!”
