Acclaimed classical sitarist Rajib Karmakar, also known as SITARRAJIB, will perform live on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. as part of Music @ the Playhouse, a series presented by Sierra Madre Playhouse. Rajib Karmakar has captivated audiences around the world through collaborations with musical icons like Herb Alpert, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Beck, and Sugar Blue, and ensembles such as the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Detroit Symphony. His artistry spans multiple genres, including appearances in films like Basmati Blues and Murder Mystery 2. Karmakar has recorded for major studios including Sony, Universal, and Disney.
His unique sound stems from a rich musical lineage. He began training at age four with his father, Pandit Durgadas Karmakar, and later studied under vocal maestro Ustad Ghulam Akbar Khan and sitarist Pandit Ramdas Chakravarty. His style integrates the Beenkar and Rampur Sahsawan Gharanas, blending deep tradition with innovative expression.
