PTA Forum on Talking to Kids About Sexual Consent and Harassment

South Pasadena PTA Council to Hold Forum on Talking to Kids about Sexual Consent and Harassment - Information session for South Pasadena School District parents Monday April 30 7pm in SPHS Little Theater

The South Pasadena PTA Council, in coordination with the PTAs from the middle and high school, invite parents to a special forum on Monday, April 30 at 7 pm in the SPHS Little Theater for a candid conversation about sexual consent and harassment with Los Angeles-based “More Than Sex-Ed,” a Community Partners organization that helps kids and parents navigate conversations about sexual health.

More Than Sex-Ed will conduct an inclusive, comprehensive, fact-based talk on sexuality that can give parents tools for meaningful conversations with their teens.

Jill Herbertson, an educator with More Than Sex-Ed says, “We teach that parents are the primary educators when it comes to sexuality education—and when parents say nothing at all, that sends a powerful message, too. We support parent involvement. Parents who communicate their values with their kids positively influence teens to make less risky sexual behavior choices. Despite the awkwardness on both sides, we encourage parents and teens to talk honestly about sex, sexuality, and values.”

The hour-long forum will include interactive activities, discussion and Q & A. For more information contact Lynn Serwin, VP Programs for SPHS PTSA at 323-376-1422.
