They settled in by laying down blankets, pulling out food and beverages, and laughing and smiling in anticipation to what was about to be shown on the giant outdoor screen.
Spirits were high with friendly faces all around as community members, young and old, embarked on South Pasadena’s Garfield Park last Friday for a night of entertainment.
After unloading coolers and unfolding chairs about, oh, – who’s counting? – maybe 600 moms and dads, grandparents, and tons of kids enjoyed the showing of “Despicable Me 3” as part of the City of South Pasadena’s Movies in the Park summer series.

“This is going to be fun,” gushed one youngster seated cross-legged, holding a bag of popcorn, next to her mother looking forward to the movie under the stars.
Missed it? Don’t fret. There will be another one on August 10 when “Coco” will be shown.
The best part is the film is it’s free and open to everyone. The event starts at 7 p.m. with the movie coming on at 8:15 p.m. Light refreshments will be sold at the event if you don’t bring your own picnic. And don’t forget those blankets and low sitting chairs.
