Calvary Presbyterian Church 1050 Fremont Ave. South Pasadena, CA 91030
South Pasadena Community Chorus presents the 18th performance of Handel’s “Messiah” on Sunday, December 2 at Calvary Presbyterian Church at 4 o’clock in the afternoon. The popular concert started following the 9/11 event and it help unify members of the South Pasadena community and beyond in a common positive purpose: to set the stage for the Christmas season. The first concerts were sing-along events with audience participation and somewhat modest beginnings.
The South Pasadena Community Chorus is a stand-alone group and has no official affiliation with the church. Individual sponsors in the chorus, a few church members and friends of the Chorus provide the funds to pay production costs for the professional Orchestra and Harpsichord, Organist and Soloists. Although a donation can be made at the end of the concert, there is no admission charge – it’s a musical gift to the community from the Community Chorus.
Soloists slated include Kelci Hahn, soprano; Janelle DeStefano, mezzo; Taylor Jacobs, tenor; and Luc Kleiner, bass. The director and founder of the Chorus, Mike Wilson, is also the Director of Music at the church. The concert, about one hour in length, is followed with a reception in Fellowship Hall. Parking may be available in the church parking lot which opens on El Centro.
