Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot Nears $900 Million

The whopping prize is the second-largest prize payout in United States lottery history

A Mega Millions jackpot winner Friday night is looking at taking home an estimated $900 million after no one won the gigantic prize Tuesday.

The amount would be the second-largest payout in U.S. lottery history. The largest lottery payout came back in 2016 when three individuals split $1.59 billion in a Powerball drawing.

Tuesday’s jackpot of $667 million would have been a new record for Mega Millions. The $900,000 million on Friday is projected to top that mark.

The Mega Millions numbers drawn on Tuesday were 3, 45, 49, 61, 69, and a Mega Ball of 9. Nine individuals matched all five white balls. Eight came away with $1 million apiece and another also got the Megaplier to win $5 million.

It’s a big week for the lottery with lots of money up for grabs. More than $1 billion in combined potential prize money is available, with Wednesday’s Powerball prize estimated at $345 million, — or a cash prize of nearly $200 million.

On July 24, a group of 11 coworkers in Santa Clara County, California, shared a $543 million jackpot, the game’s fourth largest.
