South Pasadena Arts and Music Academy is proud to announce the addition of two new instructors. The academy formerly known as Green Brooms reminds us they are the “same great people. Brand new name!” South Pasadena Arts and Music Academy believes in the power of music to inspire and enrich lives. They believe in “passing down the joy of music to all of our students , providing them with exposure to musical expression and building self-esteem.” Owner Manuel Lozano is proud to say that all of his instructors are working professionals in their fields and tells us it’s always exciting to bring new people to the mix. So without further ado, let’s meet Kat Hamilton and Rainee Blake.
Kat Hamilton is a west-coast, singer, songwriter and chameleon performer, lending her talents to pop-punk, emo, r&b, hip-hop, pop, and country. After graduating from the Berklee College of Music, Hamilton went on to tour nationally and internationally, record three studio albums and perform at SXSW. Most recently, her song “Bees” was featured in the Fox television series “Almost Family.” In addition to her performing credentials, Kat has also had a lengthy teaching career. She developed her own camp curriculum for Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco and taught in the music department at Redwood High School. She has worked as a voice and band coach at Girls Rock Amplify Sleepaway Camp and was the song director at Kidstock in Palo Alto, CA.
Kat specializes in voice, piano, guitar and bass. She also teaches ensemble and rock band classes around the LA area. The talented multi-instrumentalist has taught students of all ages in addition to teaching pre-school music classes. Her teaching style adapts to contemporary genres as well as jazz and classical.
Rainee Blake is a singer-songwriter, actress and multi-instrumentalist from Sydney, Australia. Rainee is known for her role on the TV show Nashville, where she played the character of Alannah and recorded 16 songs for the show’s final season. Her performances include The Opry, The Bluebird Cafe, and Women’s International Jazz Festival. She has toured her one-woman show Take me As I Am: An Evening with Joni Mitchell around the world and regularly performs in LA.
Rainee’s lessons are fun and supportive. Her holistic approach to teaching encourages students’ long lasting interest in learning, performing and their own self-expression. Rainee has been teaching private music lessons for 8 years in both LA and Sydney. Last year she was the head voice teacher for LATC’s summer theater conservatory program.
South Pasadena Arts and Music Academy is partnering with the South Pasadena Educational Fund (SPEF) for their semi-annual $10 lesson day Sunday January 26, 2020. “We love giving back to the community,” explains Lozano, “it’s simple, we teach lessons for $10 instead of our regular $40 rate and we donate all proceeds to SPEF. This is our 6th year running this event in South Pasadena and our teachers love to teach that day; the energy is super positive and one of my favorite days to come in to work. We also offer 20% off the first month’s tuition and people love it. It’s a great day to try a new instrument or dust off the guitar or vocal chords!”
Partnering with SPEF was a natural fit says Lozano, “they are a fantastic organization and education is very important to us. Many of our students at South Pasadena Arts and Music Academy and kids of our adult students attend South Pas schools.”
