The Los Angeles Clarinet Choir, a group of 14 accomplished clarinetists performing on sopranino, soprano, alto, bass and contrabass instruments, will present a concert “American Journeys” on Saturday, May 21, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1050 Fremont, South Pasadena 91030  at 7:30 PM.
Free admission; proof of vaccination and masks required by venue.
The program will include: Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein, arr. Johnston; Deep Earth Tones (world premiere) by Christin Hablewitz; Mexican Fantasies by Mike Curtis (2013 LACC commission); an Artie Shaw Medley, including tunes such as “Moonglow” and “Begin the Beguine,” and An American in Paris by George Gershwin, arranged by Johnston.
Performers include: Dr. Margaret Thornhill, conductor; Christin Hablewitz, concertmaster; soprano clarinetists Julia Damron, Ryan Espinosa, Michael Salas, Joel Nalewajek, Jenna Tatiyatrairong, and guests Rigo Castillo and Linda Szeto; bass clarinets Jose Moreno, Hongsik Park, Karen Zelazo, and guest Carlos Herrera.
