Media Release | South Pasadena Police Department
On Friday, August 8, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., two South Pasadena police officers observed a vehicle speeding and weaving through lanes in the 1800 block of Fremont Avenue.
When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop for multiple vehicle code violations, the driver accelerated, ran a red light at Mission Street, and initiated a vehicle pursuit. The chase continued northbound on Fremont Avenue and onto the westbound 210 Freeway, with assistance from a Pomona police helicopter.
Due to the suspect’s excessive speed, officers disengaged from the pursuit while the helicopter continued to track the vehicle. The suspect exited onto the 2 Freeway interchange, stopped, and fled on foot.
With aerial coordination, South Pasadena officers located the suspect on a freeway embankment and arrested him without further incident. The suspect, identified as Luis Lopez, 25, of Monrovia, was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested for felony evading and driving under the influence, then transported to Pasadena City Jail for booking.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the South Pasadena Police Department at (626) 403-7270. To submit an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
