The South Pasadena Rotary Club heard a presentation on Tuesday, Jan. 9, about Engineers Without Borders from four students and a mentor from Caltech in Pasadena.

Gordon Treweek, an engineering student mentor, presented with Anuska Rau, Katherine Gou, Kayva Ramakrishnan, and Rachel Ng about their efforts to construct a water purification system in Nepal.

Members of Caltech’s Engineers Without Borders made two trips to design and then lead the construction of the system in a remote part of the country where there is no electricity. It required the water purification system to be designed using gravity and natural filtration.

The Rotary Club of South Pasadena meets in the Tower Room of the Oneonta Church on Tuesdays at noon with the exception of the first Tuesday of the month. On those dates, they meet at 6 p.m. at the Canoe House. The public is welcome to attend and learn more about Rotary.

On Tuesday, January 16, Tim Carey, from Judson Studios, will be the speaker.
