Join the City of South Pasadena for a Series of Earth Day Celebration Events

SouthPasadenan.com | A wide variety of activities will take place during a festive Earth Day Celebration in South Pasadena this weekend.

The City of South Pasadena has announced its lineup of Earth Day Celebration events, featuring garden tours, a student art exhibition, and more. Beginning with a proclamation at the City Council meeting on April 18, the week will wrap up on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, at Eddie Park with the South Pasadena Beautiful Self-Guided Sustainable Garden Tour and the Earth Day Expo.

This year, Earth Day Expo exhibitors include: City of South Pasadena Environmental Programs, Friends of the Nature Park, South Pasadena Community Garden, Athens Services, Solar City, West Coast Arborists, Community Toy Swap, Tree Lectures, Fun Family Activities, and more. Food trucks will also be available. Earth Day Celebration events are co-sponsored by South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, South Pasadena Beautiful, and Athens Services.

Activities on Thursday, April 19 include:

  • Succulent planting at “Green Thumb Thursday” from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Library Community Room
  • Earth Day Student Art Exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Library Community Room
  • Spirited discussion of sustainability topics from 4 to 8 p.m. at the City’s Farmers’ Market Booth

Activities on Friday, April 20 include:

  • Toddler Earth Day Storytime (one to two years) from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. and (two to three years) from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Library
  • Free South Pasadena Community Garden Tour from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1028 Magnolia Street

Activities on Saturday, April 21 are sponsored by Athens Services for residents only:

  • Free Dumpster Day for getting rid of unwanted items from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the 900 Block of Arroyo Drive
  • Free E-Waste Drop Off from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Golf Course

Activities on Sunday, April 22 include:

  • South Pasadena Beautiful Self-Guided Sustainable Garden Tour from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., beginning at Eddie Park
  • Earth Day Expo and South Pasadena Beautiful Plant Swap from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Eddie Park

The City of South Pasadena is proud to sponsor free reusable bags through participating local merchants. Persons who visit one or more of the above Earth Day Celebration events will receive a free Earth Day sticker(s) making them eligible to receive a free Earth Day reusable tote from participating merchants located along Mission Street and Fair Oaks Avenue in South Pasadena.

Each participating merchant will display an Earth Day Poster in the store window and give a free reusable bag to customers who wear or bring in their Earth Day sticker starting on Thursday, April 19, while supplies last. Purchase is necessary.
