An Author Night illuminating the artful story about “The Resurrection Window: Vision-Creation-Mission,” a gorgeous coffee table book by David Judson, Tim Carey, and Narcissus Quagliata, will be presented in the Library Community Room on Thursday, November 15 at 7 p.m. The three co-authors are the principals behind the world’s largest stained glass window, the magnificent $3.5 million fused glass masterpiece that was crafted in South Pasadena for a mega church in Kansas and received widespread national news attention. An excerpt from a documentary film in the making about the epic project, as well as an enlightening PowerPoint, will be screened along with the author talk that will also include an interactive audience Q & A.

The colorful event is presented by the South Pasadena Public Library, the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, the South Pasadenan, and the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library with special thanks to 210eastsound.

David Judson, the President of Judson Studios, began working there after completing his master’s degree in International relations from USC in 1996. David has been the president of the studio since 2007, overseeing its vision and operations. David lectures regularly on stained glass and the storied history of Judson Studios. He is the current president of the Stained Glass Association of America.

Narcissus Quagliata is considered one of the most significant contemporary artists in glass. He has defined a new pathway for the art of glass and is best known for his spectacular artworks in public spaces which have drawn worldwide attention. His fine artworks in glass and watercolors have been collected internationally in museums and private collections.

Tim Carey was trained in traditional drawing and painting at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and spent the first 7 years of his career as a figurative oil painter and muralist. He discovered stained glass and specifically glass painting on tour of The Judson Studios in 2003 and was immediately hooked. Carey was the creative director at Judson Studios until earlier this year when he launched Tim Carey Studio. In 2016 Tim helped open the Studios’ second location, and first in South Pasadena.

After winning the bid while competing with firms around the globe, Judson Studios recently completed their 3400 square foot fused glass window for the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. After designing the piece in 2014 and realizing it couldn’t be done solely with traditional methods, Tim Carey sought out Narcissus Quagliata and his “painting with light” fusing technique. Together they designed a custom fabrication process, and completed the piece in February of 2017.
