The South Pasadena High School Drama program is excited to announce their upcoming production of “Freaky Friday”. Based on the classic novel by Mary Rodgers and the popular
Disney films, this musical adaptation tells the story of an overworked mother and stressed daughter who magically switch bodies and learn to understand each other in a whole new way.

This hilarious and heartwarming musical features music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, the Pulitzer Prize-winning duo behind “Next to Normal” and a book by Bridget Carpenter, the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood”.

Director Nick Hoffa promises a show that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. “It is funny and family friendly, but also about something very real: how does a family heal after a tragedy? There are lots of ways to tell that story, but “Freaky Friday” does this with a magic hourglass, gut-wrenching songs, sitcom-level writing, and a parent-child dynamic anyone can relate to.” Hoffa adds, “The vocal talent and comedic chops of this cast is one of the strongest I have worked with.”

It is also a return of “Freaky Friday” to the South Pasadena area, as the 1976 film starring Jodie Foster shot several key scenes at the South Pasadena Middle School.
