A group of local firefighters turned a giant check over to the City of Hope Wednesday night.

It was a gesture of goodwill, compassion and kindheartedness.

“As most of you may know on October 19th the South Pasadena Firefighters Association and South Pasadena Police Officers Association hosted their first annual Spaghetti Dinner,” Justin Miller, a fire Engineer/paramedic with the South Pasadena Fire Department told the City Council during the regularly scheduled monthly meeting at City Hall.

The Spaghetti Dinner at the South Pasadena Fire Department was a fundraiser to raise funds in support of breast cancer research and treatment through the City of Hope.

The first-year effort proved to be a big success.

“On behalf of the South Pasadena Firefighters Association and Police Association, we would like to thank our citizens within South Pasadena and surrounding cities along with our Sponsors for helping make this fundraiser a great success,” said Miller before unveiling the check. “We were able to raise $3,000 with the communities support and would like to donate to the City of Hope breast cancer research and treatment center.”

In closing Miller said: “Thank you again for all of your support in making this year a successful and eventful fundraiser.”
