UPDATE: HOUSE FIRE | 4 Fire Departments Respond to 911 Call

UPDATE: According to an official summary via Division Chief Eric Zanteson of South Pasadena Fire Department:

“Personnel conducted an investigation of the cause and origin. Investigator 8, Papadakis, has identified a possible, preliminary, cause as carelessly discarded smoking materials. The resident reported discarding a cigarette into a trash can, adjacent to the vehicle stored outside the garage.”

The report further elaborated, “Safety became an issue when the electrical lines and meter became involved in the fire, began to arc, and subsequently dropped the lines to the ground.”

“The fire was fought for approximately 30 minutes before being able to declare knockdown…Tow trucks were requested to the scene to pull the burning vehicles from the garage area. Once they were removed the balance of fire was completely extinguished.”

A more thorough investigation is currently underway.

According to Fire officials at the scene, at approximately 9:21 P.M on Tuesday, February 12, police and fire officials responded to a residential home fire at 2072 Hanscom Drive in South Pasadena.

Close to 30 firefighters from four different departments – South Pasadena Fire Department, PasadenaSan Marino, Alhambra, and Los Angeles City – worked in unison to extinguish the blaze and prevented the fire from spreading to other residences on the hillside.

According to South Pasadena Police Department Corporal Phillips reporting to The SouthPasadenan.com News, “Police units responded first to the scene and found the house fully engulfed in flames.” Firefighters arrived soon after, just under five minutes according to Fire Chief Paul Riddle of the South Pasadena Fire Department, and rescued two dogs that were trapped inside the structure. “We learned quickly that there was no one (people) in the house besides two dogs.”

“The fire was successfully put out with no damage to the hillside.” Says Phillips.

The inhabitants and both dogs occupying the residence did not require any medical assistance.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and according to Corporal Phillips, “It may take a few days to find out the cause.”
