The Housing Rights Center (HRC) will be hosting FREE Housing Rights Workshops throughout Los Angeles and Ventura County. The one in Pasadena will be held Thursday, December 13, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Pasadena Library. HRC will present information and resources regarding landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities, Fair Housing, and housing discrimination. Topics will include: discrimination against families with children, disability rights, sexual harassment, evictions, repairs, security deposits, rent increases, substandard conditions, and much more! Creative Visionaries of “The Resurrection Window” at South Pasadena Library Author Night Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. An Author Night illuminating the artful story about “The Resurrection Window: Vision-Creation-Mission,” a gorgeous coffee table book by David Judson, Tim Carey, and Narcissus Quagliata, will be presented in the Library Community Room on Thursday, November 15 at 7 p.m. The three co-authors are the principals behind the world’s largest stained glass window, the magnificent $3.5 million fused glass masterpiece that was crafted in South Pasadena for a mega church in Kansas and received widespread national news attention. An excerpt from a documentary film in the making about the epic project, as well as an enlightening PowerPoint, will be screened along with the author talk that will also include an interactive audience Q & A. The colorful event is presented by the South Pasadena Public Library, the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, the South Pasadenan, and the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library with special thanks to 210eastsound. South Pasadena High School presents “The Laramie Project” by Moisés Kaufman and Tectonic Theater Project. Fri Nov 16th, Sat Nov 17th, 7pm and Sun Nov 18th at 2pm. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Matthew Shepard, a young, gay college student, on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. The fallout from Matt’s murder on his family, his friends, the local Laramie community, the national LGBTQ+ movement, and the country at large was profound and spawned countless songs, essays, films, and one seminal play: The Laramie Project. Location: The Little Theater, South Pasadena High School, 1401 Fremont Ave. South Pasadena. General Admission is $15. New Exhibitions at our New SPARC Gallery South Pasadena City Hall SPARC is excited about our new partnership with the City of South Pasadena to include two exhibition spaces at City Hall for the displaying contemporary art.This first exhibition features two South Pasadena artists, Michael Provart, exhibiting his large scale paintings on the ground floor. and the photographs of South Pasadena by local artist Cyndi Bemel.

Hansel and Gretel – holiday opera classic. Saturday Dec. 1, 2:30 & 7:30pm Woman’s Club of South Pasadena 1424 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena 91030 Engelbert Humperdinck’s fantasy Hansel and Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) is a fairy tale opera that follows two young siblings, Hänsel and Gretel, as they get lost in the forest after being chased out of the house for bothering their mother. In their quest to pick and gather strawberries, the children become lost in the woods, reknown for being the home to an evil Witch who eats children. After meeting some other magical characters, the children come across a delicious gingerbread house, where a kind old woman lives. They are invited inside to enjoy a smorgasbord of sweets and treats, only to discover that their host is the evil Witch. She puts a spell on the children, making them eat until their are plump so that she can cook them to perfection. The children manage to conquer the Witch, and their parents find them, all celebrating their freedom. Click here for tickets.
Otter Story Hour A live storytelling event held in the basement of a pub, Griffins of Kinsale, from 7 to 9 pm usually on the first Monday of the month. Visit the website and our Facebook page Our Otter storytellers pull up meaningful experiences from the depths of their lives, crack them open on their heart to expose what is tender and get them off their chest. When they do this we are all nourished, strengthened, enlivened. They re-mind us what we love about life. We can’t help watching.

Chutes & Ladders: Terry Braunstein Through January 4, 2019 SPARC Gallery @ Chamber of Commerce Artist Talk: December 8, 2018, 6-7:30PM This exhibition consists of 12 assemblages by Long Beach multi-media and photo-montage artist Terry Braunstein. Braunstein is a philosopher as well as an artist — her creative weave of archetypes and ancient myths coupled with modern images found in the contemporary magazines, gives us profound insight. Her creative juxtapositions are often surprising and even humorous, reflecting how our own private, mundane world is connected to all of humanity, and how our life passages and experiences reflect universal themes.
