Next meeting is on Saturday, September 8th (2nd Saturday). We are very pleased that our South Pasadena City Treasurer, Gary Pia, has agreed to come speak about the Utility User’s Tax Repeal. The repeal of this tax will be on the November ballot. Be sure to come to the meeting to find out what this is all about and how the possible repeal will affect our city.

  • WISPPA Special Event – Behind the Scenes at the Pasadena Playhouse. Be sure to RSVP. If you haven’t received an invitation, please respond to this email and one will be sent to you. CEO and Artistic Director Danny Feldman will be giving WISPPA members and their guests a look behind the scenes on September 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. (Refreshments will be served) There will also be an opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for the play that afternoon, Native Gardens, at a discounted rate of $40. Make a day of it with your fellow WISPPA members – morning tour, lunch, and then the afternoon play! Look for your invitation in your email in the next few days! WISPPA member Barbara Sinclair has kindly organized this event for us!
  • Clean Power Alliance is seeking qualified applicants for its inaugural volunteer Community Advisory Committee. The Committee will be composed of 15 representatives from seven diverse geographic sub-regions within Clean Power Alliance territory and will advise the Clean Power Alliance Board of Directors on certain policy and planning matters. The Committee is a public body and will be subject to all applicable Ralph M. Brown Act provisions. Clean Power Alliance application deadline has been extended. Clean Power Alliance asks that anyone wishing to apply submit the following form by August 22, 2018. A selection panel will review applications and you may be contacted for an interview. Committee Members will be appointed by the Board of Directors. To help shape Southern California’s energy future, interested residents can apply to be a member the Community Advisory Committee here.
  • Children’s Hospitals’ Pediatric Trauma Programs–SHOE DRIVE FUNDRAISER –Collection Box @ So Pasadena Recreation Office. Help raise funds for the Children’s Hospitals’ (LA & OC) Pediatric Trauma Programs. Through August -Sept. the SJHHS Key Club will be collecting gently used shoes of all shapes, styles, and sizes. The shoe drive collection box is housed in the South Pasadena Recreation Division Office 815 Mission St, South Pasadena, CA 91030 M-F 10 a.m. -6 p.m. If you are leaving donations after business hours or during the weekend, please leave a note to the office staff that the shoes are for the collection box. Thanks!
  • Did you know:
    • You can dispose of couches and other large items by calling Athens to schedule a bulky item pickup at 888-336-6100.
    • If you have any old cell phones that you need to get rid of you can contact the City of South Pasadena’s Police Department at (626) 403-7270.
    • Bottles and cans can be recycled at NexCycle in the Pavilions parking lot, or you can call (909) 796-2210 to find other locations.
    • If you have furniture or working electronics you would like to recycle, the ACTS Thrift Store in Pasadena can help. Contact them to schedule a pickup or call (626) 577-4477.

An Author Night with celebrated writer Lawrence Grobel, who has penned 28 books on many of the most world’s most famous celebrities, will be presented in the South Pasadena Public Library Community Room on Thursday, August 23 at 7 pm. Joyce Carol Oates has called Larry Grobel “the Mozart of interviewers” and J.P. Donleavy has called him “the most intelligent interviewer in the United States.” A Q & A with Larry will be conducted by Dean Ghaffari, an actor, playwright, and teacher who lives in South Pasadena. A few years ago, Dean performed his living history portrayal of Sal Mineo, “Rebel With a Cause” to a standing ovation at the Library. Audience members will also be able to pose questions. The Community Room is located at 1115 El Centro Street. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. No tickets or reservations are necessary. Bradfest II featuring Twanguero, Rose’s Pawn Shop + more Saturday August 25 at 5:00pm Twanguero and Rose’s Pawn Shop will ignite another magical evening in the Arroyo for the 2nd annual Bradfest (aka Summerfest). Also appearing will be I See Hawks in LA, Abby & the Myth, and the Pasadena Playboys. In addition to all the music on 2 stages from 5 to 10pm, there will be a song circle/acoustic jam near the 1st tee. LWV – Voices from the Front Lines of Voter Engagement and Empowerment Thursday, September 6, 8:00 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Our three panelists for League Day were selected for their experience in mobilizing people to be aware of the issues that matter to them and then vote. Each panelist will tell about his/her group’s experiences and best practices for motivating and empowering communities in our current environment. After Q & A with the audience, each table of participants will discuss and plan specific activities to help people in the Pasadena area get registered, informed, and then vote. Cruz’n for Roses Classic Car Show Sunday, September 16 at 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM Cost: Free Location: Mission Street Between Fair Oaks and Meridian, South Pasadena The South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee invites you to their 14th annual Classic Car Show along legendary Route 66 (Mission Street). The show will feature hundreds of hot rods, custom cars, and classics, as well as a raffle, trophies, refreshments, food, exhibits, and vendors of all sorts.
