Current South Pasadena City Councilmember Diana Mahmud has pulled papers seeking a second term in office.
She received the necessary paperwork from Chief City Clerk Marc Donahue on Monday, the first official date to begin filing in time for the Nov. 6 election.
In a first for South Pasadena, the city is broken up in districts as a result of a threat of pending litigation by the law firm of Shenkman & Hughes just over a year ago.
In June of 2017, the city received a letter from the Malibu attorney alleging violations of the California Voting Rights Act. After a series of public hearings and a public workshop, the South Pasadena City Council reluctantly adopted an ordinance to change the City’s electoral system from at-large to by-district elections starting in November of this year.
Along with Mahmud, Michael Cacciotti, who has served on the council since 2001, is expected to seek office once again.
