The South Pasadena Fire Department (SPFD) and South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD), in collaboration with Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), offered Sidewalk CPR instruction at South Pasadena High School on May 18, 2026, and South Pasadena Middle School on May 19, 2026.

Students and staff at South Pasadena High School and South Pasadena Middle School learned lifesaving skills, including the three steps before performing CPR chest compressions: checking the scene for safety, calling 911, and tapping the patient to check for breathing. They also practiced administering chest compressions effectively.

These activities took place during National EMS Week, which recognizes the lifesaving contributions of emergency medical technicians, paramedics, dispatchers, and out-of-hospital medical personnel who serve on the front lines of community health and safety. This year, EMS Week is observed between May 17 to May 23, 2026.
