The City of South Pasadena will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers to consider proposed amendments related to building height, density, and development standards in designated areas across the city.

The proposed updates—recommended by the South Pasadena Planning Commission—include amendments to the General Plan, Housing Element, Downtown Specific Plan, and the Zoning Code/Zoning Map. These changes aim to promote housing development and support the City’s long-term planning goals.

Supporting Housing Through Policy Updates

Key proposals focus on:

  • Establishing height limits in mixed-use zones

  • Defining regulations for the Housing Opportunity Overlay Zone

  • Updating zoning standards to enable higher-density development where appropriate

These efforts align with regional and state housing mandates and are designed to increase housing supply while preserving the character and livability of South Pasadena.

Community Participation Encouraged

Residents, business owners, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and provide feedback. The public hearing is an opportunity for community members to help shape the future of South Pasadena’s urban development and housing accessibility.
