The United States Postal Service (USPS) has opened a new state-of-the-art Sorting & Delivery Center (SDC) in Burbank, marking a significant step in its national push to modernize operations and enhance mail and package delivery for local residents.

Unveiled during a special event attended by USPS employees, the facility is designed to streamline sorting and delivery processes, ensuring faster, more reliable service. This effort is part of the Postal Service’s broader strategy to transform into a high-performing logistics and delivery organization.

Investing in Speed, Efficiency, and Employee Wellbeing

USPS District Manager Al Santos emphasized the importance of the Burbank SDC in the agency’s larger transformation plan.

“We’re transforming our operations to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” Santos said. “The new Burbank SDC is part of our commitment to delivering faster, more reliable service while creating a better workplace for our dedicated employees.”

The Burbank center is among the numerous infrastructure projects supported by USPS’s $40 billion nationwide investment aimed at modernizing facilities, improving delivery speed, and enhancing employee working conditions.

In California alone, USPS has allocated nearly $640 million in local investments, including:

  • Over $16 million for constructing 24 new facilities
  • More than $233 million for renovating 473 existing facilities
  • Over $176 million for purchasing 60 advanced package sorting machines

USPS Reinforces Its Role as a Trusted Delivery Provider

With a workforce of nearly 640,000 employees nationwide, USPS is investing heavily to ensure its services remain reliable, affordable, and efficient. In California, more than 62,500 employees benefit from the upgrades, which prioritize safety and wellbeing alongside operational improvements.

These efforts support USPS’s ambitious 10-year Delivering for America plan, which aims to secure the Postal Service’s future as a trusted, high-performing delivery provider for every American household.
