CicLAvia is set to host its 60th Open Streets event with the first CicLAmini of the year, offering a pedestrian-focused experience in Pico Union. Taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, the event will transform 1.4 miles of Pico Boulevard between Normandie Avenue and Union Avenue into a car-free, people-powered park. Free and open to all ages and abilities, CicLAmini encourages walking, biking, skating, and playing through one of LA’s most historic neighborhoods.

A More Intimate CicLAvia Experience

This CicLAmini is designed as a smaller-scale, neighborhood-focused version of CicLAvia’s classic routes. “Pico Union has an incredible amount of history, with deep roots in the city’s dynamic cultural heritage,” said CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual. “It will be such a treat for Angelenos to be able to explore it free of cars.”

Participants can start anywhere along the route and enjoy the open streets at their own pace. Two activity hubs will be located along the route, featuring photo ops, community booths, resources, and activities for all ages. Free pedicab rides are available at each hub to ensure accessibility for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Connecting Communities Through Open Streets

Inspired by Bogotá’s ciclovía, CicLAvia has been opening streets to people and closing them to cars since 2010. Over the past 14+ years, the initiative has welcomed more than 2 million participants across 340 miles of open streets, promoting sustainability, active transportation, and community well-being.

Participants are encouraged to use people-powered transportation—walking, biking, skating, and more. Electric scooters, hoverboards, and other non-people-powered vehicles are not permitted, though motorized wheelchairs and Class 1 & 2 e-bikes (with throttle off) are allowed.
