Throw, Run and Ball Like a Girl! Yes, We Will!!
This past March, in celebration of Women’s History Month, Marengo Class of 2023 Marisol Barba and Hannah Huh displayed posters recognizing women in sports as part of their Girl Scout Silver Award. Their project, entitled “Girl Sports Power,” addresses the statistic that by age 14, girls are dropping out of sports at twice the rate of boys.
Girls who play sports learn these top skills:
- Teamwork
- Confidence
- Communication
- Leadership
- Self-Belief
- Resilience
In addition, girls who play sports become women who lead. 94% of women in executive
managerial positions have a background in sports. 91% of women in leadership roles say the skills they learned through sports have positively impacted their career.
Please join Hannah and Marisol for a fun sports clinic demonstrating basketball and volleyball with these two young athletes spreading their love of their sport to the Marengo community.

Ways Marengo families can also support girls and women in sports:
- Attend games.
- Buy merchandise.
- Follow athletes & leagues on social media.
- Advocate for equal pay: Speak up for equal pay and opportunities for women’s sports.
- Demand media coverage: Contact journalists, broadcasters, and sports networks to encourage more coverage of women’s sports.
- Support sponsorships: Encourage companies and your community to sponsor a girls’ sports team.
- Volunteer to coach a local girls’ sports team.
- Highlight achievements through advertising, sponsorships and social media campaigns to
- highlight female athletes’ achievements.
As you have now read on ParentSquare, seen on our Instagram page, and heard at Friday’s ROAR Assembly, MARENGO has been selected for the 2025 California Distinguished Schools Program by the California Department of Education (CDE).
As Superintendent Geoff Yantz stated, “This honor recognizes the hard work and dedication of the students, staff, and parents at Marengo and Monterey Hills Elementary Schools,” said. “These schools are being celebrated for offering exceptional educational opportunities that encourage students to engage and excel.”
The PTA is proud and sends congratulations and gratitude to our young learners, staff, and administrators!

2025 Talent Show Registration is now closed!
Some important information:

Shows are on Friday May 16th and Sunday May 18th at the South Pasadena High School Auditorium.

Auditions will be April 17 & 18th. Sign up to volunteer at Auditions here. All registered performers received an email this morning with a link to signup for an audition slot.

Performances must be 60 seconds or less.

All parents must volunteer for at least one shift between now and the show (there will be more opportunities).

There are lots of rules. Sorry!
