U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from the San Diego Field Office concluded May with a major blow to narcotics trafficking, seizing 7,854 pounds of illegal drugs valued at over $17 million. These efforts, conducted across 115 interdiction incidents, underscore the agency’s ongoing mission to disrupt organized drug distribution networks and enhance public safety.
Breakdown of May Narcotics Seizures
Throughout the month, CBP officers intercepted:
- 6,298 pounds of methamphetamine
- 1,267 pounds of cocaine
- 256 pounds of fentanyl
- 33 pounds of heroin
These seizures were the result of strategic enforcement actions across ports of entry in the region, severely impacting the operations of criminal trafficking organizations.
Major Cocaine Interception at Calexico East
Among the month’s most significant events was a seizure on May 29 at the Calexico East Cargo Facility. A tractor-trailer referred to secondary inspection was found to contain 245.28 pounds of cocaine hidden within its air tanks. Officers uncovered 100 packages of the drug during a detailed examination.
