South Pasadena Police News Release
A 20-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested after allegedly brandishing what appeared to be a handgun at the South Pasadena Metro Station late Monday morning.
Foot Chase Ensues After Suspect Flees Scene
At approximately 11:41 a.m., the South Pasadena Police Department received a report of a male suspect displaying a silver firearm at the Metro station. Responding officers interviewed several witnesses who pointed out the suspect as he attempted to walk away from the scene.
When officers approached, the man—later identified as Antonio Rivera—fled on foot, running across multiple streets in an effort to evade police.
Weapon Recovered Was a Realistic-Looking BB Gun
During the pursuit, Rivera was seen discarding the weapon in the parking lot of a business in the 700 block of Mission Street. Officers recovered the item and discovered it was a BB gun, which notably contained a real, though empty, shell casing in the chamber, making it appear more threatening.
Suspect to Face Charges in October
Rivera was apprehended without further incident and is scheduled to appear for arraignment in October at the Alhambra Courthouse.
