he City of South Pasadena is raising awareness for Fix a Leak Week, an initiative dedicated to water conservation by encouraging residents to inspect and repair household leaks. From March 19, the city will host educational programs and offer rebates to promote sustainable water use.
The Cost of Water Leaks
Leaks may seem minor, but they contribute to over 1 trillion gallons of wasted water each year. A single leaky faucet dripping once per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons annually, increasing water bills and harming the environment. Replacing toilets with WaterSense models can save an additional 13,000 gallons per household.
Incentives and Rebates for Conservation
To support residents, South Pasadena provides rebates for water-efficient appliances such as drip irrigation systems, Energy Star dishwashers, and leak detection devices. These incentives help homeowners adopt sustainable practices while lowering their utility costs.
Upcoming Leak Detection Training
As part of Fix a Leak Week, the Landscape Academy will host a free Outdoor Leak Detection training on March 19 at 6:00 PM at the Library Community Room. Community members are encouraged to attend and learn practical methods for spotting and repairing leaks.
