A Classic Tale of Love and Secrets Opens March 29 in Pasadena
Mystery and romance take center stage in Jane Eyre, an adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel by Elizabeth Williamson. This thrilling and emotionally charged production, directed by A Noise Within’s artistic director Geoff Elliott, opens on March 29 at the company’s Pasadena theater, with performances running through April 20. Previews begin March 23.
“I read the adaptation first, having never read the novel, and I couldn’t put it down—it set me on fire,” says Elliott. “It’s a deeply affecting love story that’s also a Gothic horror tale, at once stirring, terrifying, with an impending sense of violence, and, in the end, uplifting. Williamson did a remarkable job of distilling the novel, which I’ve since read three times, into a sweeping, fast-moving two hours that moves like a river.”
A Tale of Passion and Secrets
Orphaned as a child and determined to carve her own path, Jane Eyre (Jeanne Syquia) accepts a governess position at Thornfield Hall, where she meets the enigmatic Edward Rochester (Frederick Stuart). As she falls in love with her mysterious employer, dark secrets unravel, threatening her happiness and testing her resilience. This bold adaptation offers a gripping portrayal of one woman’s pursuit of freedom and self-discovery amid deep emotional and societal challenges.

The cast also includes Deborah Strang as Mrs. Fairfax, with Bert Emmett, Julia Manis, Trisha Miller, and Riley Shanahan taking on multiple roles. Stella Bullock portrays young Jane and Rochester’s ward, Adele.

Performances take place March 29 – April 20 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. (excluding March 29). Previews run from March 23 – 28.
