Alaskan finger-style guitarist Kray Van Kirk has a Ph.D. in fisheries population dynamics modeling. However, he realized that he liked writing songs more than statistical models, so he put aside his computer, and picked up his guitar and hasn’t looked back. He also apparently does a spot-on impression of Japan's nineteenth century blind swordsman, Zatoichi. Of this charming, quixotic and eclectic performer, the Borderline Folk Club in New York wrote that Van Kirk was "what every singer-songwriter should aspire to.” Michael McNevin’s songs read like short stories—full of heart, humor, and a keen eye for detail. Skillful guitar work and nuanced vocals underscore the characters and places of his travels. His easy going rapport and knack for storytelling brings audiences into his scenes. Michael grew up and resides in the train town of Niles, California where the first set of railroad tracks entered the San Francisco Bay Area in 1869.We’ll also hear from Michigan songwriter and finger-style guitarist, Daniel Bracken.
