FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dr. Suzie Abajian Declares Victory in Glendale City Clerk Race

June 24, 2022

Dr. Suzie Abajian has taken a significant lead in the vote count, with more than 1,600 votes over her opponent, ensuring her victory in the Glendale City Clerk race.

Dr. Abajian stated:

“I am honored and humbled to have gained the support of so many voters in Glendale in my run for City Clerk. I am grateful for everyone who volunteered, donated, spread the word and believed in my campaign. We could not have made it without your help and support! We have put up a strong grassroots campaign with a fraction of the budget of my opponent and we have gained the support of the community.

I am proud to say that our campaign has raised awareness of the important responsibilities of the office of the City Clerk and engaged voters in thoughtful conversations about the future of our city.

The reason I ran for the position of City Clerk is because of my deep care for and commitment to our city. I want Glendale to become a more vibrant, inclusive and healthy place for the coming generations. I look forward to working with our residents to make our City of Glendale all that it could be.”

About Me

Glendale is the city where I was raised and the city where I have chosen to raise my family. Following my graduation from Glendale High School, I attended Occidental College where I attained a B.A. in Mathematics and an M.A. in Mathematics Education. After teaching in K-12 for a number of years, I pursued a Ph.D. in Education from UCLA and worked/taught in higher education (UCLA, LMU and Occidental College) for twelve years. In 2018, I made the transition back to K-12 and worked as an administrator at the Orange County Department of Education for several years. Currently I am the Secondary Mathematics Specialist at GUSD. In addition to my educational career, I was elected to the school board in South Pasadena -the city where I lived prior to returning to Glendale. During my six-year tenure on the school board, I served as the School Board Clerk and eventually as the School Board President.

Why I am Running

I am running for the office of City Clerk because I care deeply about Glendale, my hometown, and I want to use my skills to make it the best city that it could be for my daughter and for future generations. I believe that my city deserves a qualified candidate for City Clerk who is passionate about transparency, access and voter empowerment. I believe that I am this candidate. As a working mother and educator of 24 years, I understand the need for our residents to have easy access to information about city services and processes. As an experienced educational administrator and small business owner, I have extensive knowledge in record keeping, managing staff, interfacing with the public, and ensuring organizational compliance with the law. As a former school board clerk and school board president, I have a deep understanding of the Brown Act, the Public Records Act and fair political practices within governmental entities. We have a wonderfully diverse and multilingual city. I am committed to ensuring that all residents have modernized and accessible city records, services and information. I will advocate for all eligible voters to be able to fully participate in the electoral process.
