The Maya Salon announced their opening on Mission Street this week with a festive ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a grand opening party. The mood was jubilant as brother and sister team owners, Azelle and Patrick Santa Ana invited guests into their spacious salon for food, drinks, goodie bags and prize giveaways. South Pasadena Mayor Michael Cacciotti and City Councilmember Diana Mahmud  were on hand for the official ribbon cutting and Laurie Wheeler of the Chamber of Commerce along with chambermember Sam Hernandez welcomed the entire team of The Maya Salon to the street, to the city and congratulated them on their opening.

Azelle honed her hairstyling craft at Hair Club Bosley and Salon Sessions and has been working out of a private studio in South Pasadena for the past few years while her brother Patrick owned a clothing and skincare boutique in Long Beach.  After speaking with a few mentors, she began thinking about finding a new space for herself and at the same time Patrick had closed his boutique and was seeking something new. They had never discussed working together but after both had checked out the space on Mission separately, they realized they could combine the beauty aspects of their businesses to make a new, unique place and The Maya Salon was born.

The salon offers skincare, make-up application, eyelash extensions, a full skin & body care boutique and of course full service hairstyling. Alongside Azelle there are four stylists; Xavier Coronado, Gabriela de la Cruz, Rebekah Tapia and Rene Rosales. Co-owner Patrick Santa Ana is a Skin Specialist and Make-up Artist and Claire Partida is the Esthetician.

Azelles says “we want to be a one-stop shop where our clients can come and relax; we have lounge areas. It’s pretty, modern and comfortable – we wanted to create a relaxing space for our staff as well because it’s like our second home.”
