Excessive Heat Watch in effect for Inland areas

Important Message:

The South Pasadena Senior Center and Library will be open as cooling centers on Monday, August 28 through Saturday, September 2 due to excessive heat warnings.  Both facilities offer cold water and air conditioning to the public.  Facility hours are as follows:
Senior Center – Monday – Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm;
Library – Monday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.

California as well as the Los Angeles Basin beginning Sunday
morning through Tuesday evening…

…Excessive Heat Watch in effect for the Coastal Areas from San
Luis Obispo to Ventura Counties Monday morning through Tuesday
evening…

.The combination of strong high pressure building aloft and weak
surface wind gradients, high temperatures are expected to climb
10 to 18 degrees above normal in many parts of the forecast area
beginning late this weekend and continue through at least mid
week. There is a chance that these very hot conditions could
linger through much of next week and Labor Day weekend. The
warmest temperatures are expected to be across the Antelope
Valley, lower mountain elevations, coastal and inland valleys as
well as the Los Angeles Basin away from the coast.

The other coastal areas will be under an Excessive Heat Watch
beginning Monday morning and continue through Tuesday evening.

…EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING
THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING…

* TEMPERATURE…102 to 110 degrees. Low temperatures are
expected to lower to the mid to upper 70s. Highest across the
elevated and foothill locations.

* IMPACTS…The very high temperatures create a dangerous
situation in which heat related illnesses are possible.
Temperatures inside vehicles, even if the windows are
partially open, can quickly rise to life-threatening levels.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Never, ever, leave people or pets in enclosed vehicles, even for
a short period of time.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency – call 911.
