Take Part in City of South Pasadena’s “Transitions Forum” on Senior Care

On Friday, April 6th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the South Pasadena Senior Center will offer a “Transitions Forum” featuring 10 panelists/experts who will speak on a variety of topics related to aging in place, dealing with long-term illness, maintaining independence in one’s home, and deciding whether to place a loved one into a facility. This Forum is for those who are caring for a loved one and may be challenged with providing care, those who are considering moving to a smaller home, as well as those who are considering Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing care. Specialists will share information on programs that can assist with placement, shared cost programs through an Assisted Living Waiver application, and Understanding Palliative Care and Comprehensive Care. When the presentations conclude, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions or meet one-on-one with the experts. Sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care, refreshments and lunch will be provided for attendees. At present, 70+ seniors have signed up and capacity is capped at 100 persons. Reservations are required to attend.

Southern California Edison to Perform Needed Slurry Seal Work

Southern California Edison will be performing slurry seal work on streets adjacent to Monterey Hills Elementary school during SPUSD spring break. The work is scheduled Wednesday, April 4, 2018 through Friday, April 6, 2018. The following portions of streets affected are: Via del Rey, Indiana Avenue, Camino del Sol, Camino Cerrado, Flores de Oro, Camino Linda, and La Portada Street. Notices will be sent to neighboring residents and Monterey Hills Elementary school. In addition, signage will be posted within the limits of work noting parking restrictions and times. These streets will not be closed during the work, but there will be limited access and delays may occur due to the construction activity.

Delightful Senior Citizen Prom Took Place at War Memorial Building

On Friday, March 23, 2018, the Senior Citizen Prom dinner dance was held at the War Memorial Building. The program was a joint effort between South Pasadena’s Senior Center and the City’s Youth Commission. This year’s event was themed, “A Tango Night,” where an instructor gave Argentine Tango lessons to the attendees and DJ Ben provided music. Pasta dinner was served, followed by the crowning of King and Queen. Over 60 senior citizens attended the no cost event. Many heartfelt thanks to event sponsors, Regency Oak Knoll and HealthCare Partners.
