It was an afternoon of fun and discovery for many who attended Monterey Hills Elementary School’s first-ever Chinese New Year Festival.
Those on hand last Friday enjoyed learning about traditions, dishes, drinks and games that are part of China’s most important holiday – Chinese New Year.

In addition to learning about the country’s culture, Children in attendance at the MHS Chinese New Year celebration enjoyed activities, crafts, face painting and dance performances. A variety of bonsai trees were also on sale.
The Chinese Zodiac moves in a 12-year cycle. Individuals born in 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, and 2018 were born in the Year of the Dog
On Friday, Feb. 16, Chinese communities around the world will host New Year’s celebrations.
