Teen Center and Cal State LA launch exciting new program for teens.

The program is designed to integrate youth into the workforce or post-secondary education upon graduation.

The City of South Pasadena’s Teen Center in collaboration with Cal State LA has launched the Young Transition Navigator Program.

“The objective of the free program is to integrate youth into the workforce or postsecondary education upon graduation,” explained Lucy Hakobian, community services supervisor for the City of South Pasadena.

Hakobian said training for the new program will contain five modules, including:

•Self-exploration
•Interpersonal relationships
•Counseling
•Employment preparedness
•Person-center planning.

The Young Transition Navigator Program will offer an “evidence-based roadmap for students to obtain desirable life skills as well as support the Teen Center as a fieldwork site for rehabilitating adolescence seeking support in transitional services,” explained Hakobian.

The 16-week program (January 22 – May 18) is geared towards teens ages 13-18.

Sessions will be conducted by a Cal State LA Rehabilitation Education professor, along with graduate and undergraduate students who will facilitate the workshops.

Class meetings are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m. A special “meet and greet” is scheduled for Friday, January 19, at 4 p.m. at the Orange Grove Recreation Building-Mid Level, 815 Mission Street, in South Pasadena.
