The team basks in the afterglow of victory after a long game

South Pasadena Little League’s Junior Softball Team (SPLL) took the lead for good in the tenth inning to capture a back-and-forth game against Los Angeles’ Little League Junior team (LALL) by a 15-9 score on Monday, June 12, 2017. South Pasadena’s own Orange Grove Field hosted this year’s Tournament of Champions, bringing local Little Leagues together to compete for the District Title. The game was tied at nine with South Pasadena batting in the top of the tenth when Gillian Terhune doubled, driving in one run.

Kinu Takasugi collected six hits in six at bats to help lead SPLL’s Junior Softball. Takasugi singled in the first, walked in the second, singled in the third, singled in the fifth, homered in the seventh, singled in the ninth, and doubled in the tenth.

Los Angeles LL took an early lead in the first inning on an error. It was back and forth when LALL evened things up at nine in the bottom of the seventh inning. South Pasadena showcased strong pitching and a deep bullpen. Mollie Parker started in the circle, Alessandra Castillo pitched two innings and Sarah de la O finished strong. Defensive plays made by Takasugi and Amanda Kanaly pushed the game into extra innings.

SPLL’s Junior Softball had 24 hits in the game. Takasugi, Gillian Terhune, Olivia Ocon,de la O, Carissa Park, and Sydney Abundo each collected multiple hits for SPLL’s Junior Softball. De La O, Takasugi, and Ocon each drove in three runs to lead South Pasadena LL Tigers Junior.
