UPDATE : Photos from the June 10th Alumni Picnic

Tiger pals reunite and reminisce at Garfield Park.

Update:

SPHS Tiger Alums had a great time hanging out at Garfield Park on Saturday June 10th. Said SPHS Alumni Association VP, Mike Thurman, “we probably had about 100 alumni and friends in attendance.” Looks like a good time was had by all. Calling all Tigers! Come one, come all to Garfield Park on Saturday, June 10, to celebrate your Tiger Pride! South Pasadena High School Alumni Association will host its annual picnic at Garfield Park, starting at 11 a.m. until at least 2:00 p.m. SPHS attendees from near and far are expected to return to reunite for the all-class event and all are welcome.

Steve Cipriani ’68 and J.B. Griffin ’73 entertained the crowd at the 2014 Alumni Association picnic.

Lunch, consisting of hot dogs and the fixings, soft drinks, bottled water, chips and chocolate chip cookies, will be served at noon along with music and good times. There is no charge for admission, though donations are always happily accepted.

Whether you graduated in 1980, 2000 or are about to graduate, you are a part of a proud tradition in South Pasadena. SPHS is indeed very lucky to have such a vibrant alumni association because many schools don’t have one or they are very inactive. VP Mike Thurman (Class of ’75 and part of a four generation SPHS family!) and the association continue to actively recruit new and younger members to continue this great tradition and take the association forward to the next level. “We have three recent grads who have jumped right in with terrific energy. We are in transition as we seek our new President so it’s a great time to come on board. We want to evolve and move the association forward” says Thurman.

Stuart Kingman ’93 and his son enjoy a beautiful afternoon in the park.

In addition to organizing and facilitating class reunions and other events, the SPHSAA raises money for annual scholarships to help graduating seniors continue their education. This year they raised a whopping $27,500 that was given out this week on Senior Awards Night. It is a tremendous night for these seniors and SPHSAA is honored to be a part of such a meaningful evening and to give back to SPHS.

All SPHS grads are invited to join. Any volunteers who wish to help with the picnic are encouraged to meet beforehand at the picnic tables near the play area. There will be a brief members meeting at about 1:00 p.m. to elect the board of directors for 2017-18.

SPHS Alumni volunteers fire up the grill for a hot dog lunch.
