South Pasadena Public Library Marches in the Festival of Balloons Parade

Promoting the Summer Reading Program

The Festival of Balloons Committee and the City of South Pasadena, are celebrating the 35th Annual Fourth of July Parade, which extends along Mission Street from Diamond Avenue to Garfield Park The South Pasadena Public Library plans to join these festivities as one of the many Summer Reading Program activities offered this year. Children and their family members are invited to gather on July 4th at 10:30 a.m. on the Diamond Avenue side of the Library to march in the parade. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Marchers may bring water bottles, sunscreen, wagons, and strollers. Other wheeled vehicles are not permitted.

Offered from June 5th through August 5th, the Summer Reading Program is an eight-week, parent-supervised reading program for infants and children through 5th grade. There is also the Teen Reading Program, which is for 6th – 12th grade students. These programs are designed to encourage children and teens to read for fun. The theme of the 2017 Summer Reading Program is “Reading by Design.” In addition to walking in the Festival of Balloons parade, children and teens may enjoy other activities, such as reading and earning incentives for the time spent reading, storytimes, craft days, “Family Game Days,” special Wednesday performances, a series for tweens on creative writing, and “Lego® Mania.”
