Smoke Causes Panic on Diamond Ave

Fire officials respond to smell of smoke on the 1100 block of Diamond Ave.

PHOTO: Bill Glazier | SouthPasadenan.com | Fire officials were called to Fremont Avenue and Oxley Street at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday night at about 6:20 p.m. after two cars were involved in a traffic accident. A police official said one person complained of neck pain following the incident.

After receiving a call of the smell of smoke in the 1100 block of Diamond Avenue Tuesday night, South Pasadena Fire Dept. officials rushed to the scene, entered a residence, and found food burning in a pot on a stove.

SPPD Captain Anthony Porraz said no occupants were inside the home when firefighters went through the front door to eliminate any fire concerns. “We got in the door and found the pot still on the stove,” explained Porraz. “We were able to remove it.”

There was no fire. “Just smoke,” summed up the fire captain.

Following the incident at about 5:35 p.m., firefighters were at Fremont Avenue and El Centro St. less than an hour assisting individuals involved in a two-car accident. Police officials said one person complained of neck pain.
