It was a family affair at the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Retreat Lifestyle Jewelry and Gifts on Mission Street Saturday evening. Celebrating with owner Diane Staples were her mother, Jackie Beaudoin, her two daughters, Karissa and Allison, her nephew, Ryder and his friend Nick, along with South Pasadena friends, neighbors and dignitaries. Lovely hors d’oeurves were passed along with festive drinks as guests mingled and enjoyed 10% off their many purchases. Everything in Diane’s shop is pretty difficult to resist, so you know, don’t!

She carries carefully curated vintage and handcrafted items from various artists that she has had relationships with for years. Diane has been a buyer in this business for many years and this is her dream come true shop and she says she couldn’t have picked a better spot to put down roots than South Pasadena. She loves everything about it, so much so, she’s moved here and is committed to being open 7 days a week, open until 8pm on Thursdays through Saturdays. She is already very busy and has sold out of some of her hot items like the custom South Pasadena coasters and signs made by local artisan, David Cheaney.

Retreat filled with treasures

Guests were thrilled by what they were seeing with most of them leaving with a new treasure for themselves or someone else. When it came time for the grand ribbon cutting, Staples was joined by Mayor Cacciotti who welcomed her saying “how happy we are to welcome you and to have you here in South Pasadena.” Also on hand were councilman Richard Schneider, VP of Corporate Services at Priority One Credit Union, Robert West, and Christian Daly, a representative of Kathryn Barger. Chamber President Laurie Wheeler welcomed Staples to the chamber and presented her with certificates of recognition from State Senator Anthony Portantino and Assemblyman Chris Holden. After the official red ribbon was cut, Staples cut the ribbon again with her family. It was a wonderful event to welcome this vibrant and fresh new addition to beautiful Mission Street.
