Multiple Bills in January and February.

Residential rubbish services (solid waste) billing change will result in multiple bills during January and February 2018.

As a result of transferring residential rubbish billing to Athens Services on January 1, 2018, residents will receive more than one utility billing statement for rubbish services during January and February. The following are answers to important questions regarding this change.

Where will residential rubbish services billing statements come from now?

Prior to January 1, 2018, the City of South Pasadena (City) contracted with Global Water to provide residential water, sewer, and rubbish services billing.
As of January 1, 2018, Global Water will no longer provide residential rubbish services billing on behalf of the City. Athens Services will now provide rubbish services billing to City of South Pasadena residents.

What does this residential rubbish services billing change mean?

As of January 1, 2018, residential utility bills for rubbish services will come from Athens Services. Residential utility bills for water and sewer will come from the City as these services are still being billed through Global Water.
We kindly ask that residents bear with us as this billing change will result in more
than one utility billing statement to residential customers during the first two months of 2018. Most importantly, however, residents will NOT be double billed for rubbish services.

Why will multiple utility billing statements be sent?

Athens Services uses a billing system that sends utility billing statements quarterly and in advance of service. Conversely, the City sends utility billing statements bi-monthly for two months of prior service.
Residents will receive a utility billing statement from the City for November and December rubbish services as part of the regular utility billing during the months of January and February of 2018.
However, residents will also receive a utility billing statement from Athens Services in February for rubbish services to be provided in January, February, and March of 2018. Please note that there will be NO overlap of service periods and residents will NOT be double billed for rubbish services. The next quarterly billing statement from Athens for rubbish services will be sent in April for services in April, May, and June of 2018. The City will continue to send utility billing statements for water and sewer on a bi-monthly basis.

Are there any payment plans available to residents?

To facilitate an easier rubbish services billing change transition for residents, both Global Water (the City-contracted billing company for water and sewer) and Athens Services offer payment plans. Residents can contact both companies directly for more information on available options. Residents may reach Athens Services at (888) 336-6100 or Global Water at (855) 518-4012.
Over the next several months, the City will make every effort to ensure that residents continue to be informed about this residential rubbish services billing change to Athens Services and how it impacts utility billing.
