It’s not too late to cast your vote for the South Pasadena Unified School District special parcel tax election.
But, you better hurry.
According to language on the Official Sample Ballot, “Mail-in ballots must be received postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the Elections Office no later than three days after Election Day – February 27, 2018.”
Ballots can also be dropped off at the City Clerk’s Office – Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall, 1414 Mission St. in South Pasadena on Feb. 27 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Voters will be asked to renew the expiring school parcel tax at the current rate of $386 per parcel for a seven year period with annual inflation adjustment. There are exemptions for seniors.
“I’m confident the community is going to exercise their right to vote,” said South Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent Geoff Yantz, noting that if the measure passes it will continue to provide local revenue of approximately $2.3 million to support programs in local public schools.
Advance programs in math, science, reading, engineering, technology, music and the arts will all benefit from the funding. Retaining and hiring qualified teachers, counseling, and libraries will all benefit from Measure S dollars.
“If its not close, then we’ll hear the results Tuesday night,” said Yantz, “or as late as Friday.”
If the election is one-sided with votes supporting the measure, committee members who put in long hours organizing the successful effort will share in a celebration.
