Key Match Against Temple City Soccer!

South Pasadena High can move into third place Tuesday with a victory over Temple City.

South Pasadena High’s boys’ soccer team concludes the Rio Hondo League regular season this week with a pair of key games to secure a spot in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.

A win over Temple City on Tuesday afternoon puts the Tigers in third place in league play with one game to go. South Pasadena finishes up on Thursday at Blair. Both games start at 3:30 p.m.

Monrovia is the leader at 7-1 in league (14-6-3 overall), followed by La Canada 6-0-2, (10-2-5 overall); Temple City 4-4 (10-8 overall), South Pasadena 3-3-2 (10-4-4 overall) San Marino 1-7, (5-10-2 overall) and Blair 1-7 (1-7 overall).

South Pasadena is coming off a 0-0 tie to La Canada last Friday and knows it can put itself in a solid position to lock up the third place spot in league with a victory over the Rams on Tuesday. In the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 17, the Tigers came out on the short end of the match 3-1.

South Pasadena easily handled Blair 5-1 on Jan. 24, so a win over Temple City is just what the Tigers need to put itself in a position to reach the postseason.

The Tigers’ Jack Renken leads the league with 17 goals while Tigers’ coach Juan Zurita is getting solid play out of Reo Snyder, Kai Dettman, Hank Rainey, Niko Tripodis and goalie Jack Gallagher, who had had seven saves against La Canada.
