Holi is the Hindu Festival of Colors that marks the start of Spring and celebrates the triumph of good over evil.  The festival is traditionally celebrated on the last full moon day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month which falls on March 2nd this year.  In India, Holi is a time for family, friends, and community to come together in the spirit of happiness and togetherness.  Holi festivals feature dancing, feasting, laughter, and bursts of vibrant color!

Naturally, the colors have symbolic meanings, with red representing love and fertility; yellow (the color of turmeric) is for good health; blue for the Hindu God Krishna; and green for new beginnings.

The idea for SPEF’s Color Festival came about from an expressed interest in the community for a family-friendly, carnival-like event.  Board Member Vijay Sehgal suggested introducing a Holi inspired festival to bring together and celebrate our beautiful and diverse community.  Board Member, Jean Zenas embraced the idea and brought the vision to life with a festival of dancing, performances, games, food and lots of color!
