The fiercely explosive La Tuna Canyon fire jeopardized hundreds of homes in several metro areas including Sunland, Burbank, Glendale, & Los Angeles/Foothills over the last 72 hours.
Entire hillsides on fire above Burbank & Glendale forced mandatory evacuations of hundreds of people. The multi-agency command structure, jointly organized fire crews from across Southern California including Cal Fire, Los Angles County Fire, Glendale Fire Department, Burbank Fire Department and surrounding cities combined with major air support and 12 ground crews have been able to keep home losses to 2-heat related injuries, 3-homes and 1-damaged.
Senator Portantino was on location at the press conference and cited the remarkable job our fire crews and leadership have done fighting this dangerous fire.
Serious threat remains, and some evacuation orders are still in effect and expanding.

It’s reported that weather is a major concern with high temperatures, shifting gusting winds, and huge amounts of brush ‘fuel’ in the fires path.
As of Sunday 9/3/2017 10am:
10% containment has been achieved through a highly coordinated multi-agency operation which includes 1,061 firefighters, 206 fire engines, 9 helicopters, 12 ground crews, 9 ambulances, and ‘superscooper’ air support. FEMA is on scene to provide crucial federal funding support.
