Fire Dept. officials put out blaze after motorist notices smoke coming from the hood of her vehicle

Fire Department officials were quick to respond to a car fire on Wednesday after at the corner of El Centro St. and Meridian Ave.

Captain Kris Saxon of the South Pasadena Fire Department said heavy smoke was coming out of the hood of the vehicle when firefighters arrived at the scene just before 5 p.m. “We popped the hood and found minor flames,” he explained, “and put it out.”
The female driver told authorities that she saw smoke coming from the hood area of the older Cadillac when she pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. Saxon said a bystander used a fire extinguisher “until we got here to put it out.”

Following the incident, fire department officials were determining the cause of the blaze. No injuries were reported.
